What are the requirements for the Capstone Project?
The Capstone project is designated as a thesis, portfolio or practicum and is accompanied by a rationale for its purpose and design that involves electronic and/or print media and is relevant to the student's concentration in professional writing. After submitting an approved capstone proposal, the candidate works under the direction and advice of two faculty members to produce the project. The candidate must submit the capstone project at least two weeks before either:
- A discussion about the project with the faculty committee, or
- A public presentation about the project or a reading from the project for an audience of faculty and peers.
The candidate will consult with the capstone committee members about which option to choose.
For more detailed information, refer to MAPW Capstone Project.
When should I submit my Capstone proposal?
Before beginning work on the capstone project, you must prepare a proposal and have it approved by the two faculty members who will be your committee members. You must have the proposal approved and the cover sheet signed by both committee members prior to registering for the capstone project. It is strongly recommended to plan well in advance to ensure that committee members are available to help with the project.
For more information, refer to Capstone Project Proposal.

What is the KSU Capstone Showcase?
Because public reading is a crucial dimension of the writing life, the MAPW program provides students with the opportunity to present their Capstone projects to the public. At the KSU Capstone Showcase, each student is given ten minutes, including the introduction from a committee member, to present. The audience includes KSU administrators (Vice-Presidents, Deans, Department Chairs), spouses, parents, friends, and children. Each student should seek guidance from the committee members about how to choose an excerpt from the project that would be appropriate and about how to prepare for the presentation.
For more information, refer to MAPW Capstone Showcase.
